About Us

Our goal in developing this website is to create and maintain, with your help,  a comprehensive online checklist of reef flora and fauna known to be present in the Moalboal reef ecosystem.

We will have, eventually, with the help of divers, snorkelers, and naturalists, local photos, videos, and descriptions of all of these organisms that are large enough to be visible to the naked eye or to macro photography. This content will be searchable on the website or the app (in development) to make identification easier and more accurate.

Currently many of the photos (and descriptions) are not local, but are “borrowed” from Wikipedia. These photos bear the Wikipedia logo1 and will be replaced as local photos and descriptions become available. But the website is already quite useful as is, with this ‘temporary’ content, thanks in part to the search function.

Although there are many excellent books on tropical fish and marine life available, most are either voluminous and tedious to use for identification because they are covering the entire Indo Pacific region, or in the other extreme, are incomplete.

We also plan to provide more attention to the identification and description of soft and hard corals, ascidians, anemones, and sponges in the Moalboal reef ecosystem.

Your help is more than welcome – it’s necessary to the success of this project. Your local  photos and videos of Moalboal marine creatures are needed for us to get high quality content on the website; to make it an even more useful tool
